Community Service

UMass Amherst ASCE regularly organizes community service projects in and around Amherst.  The group has laid trolley tracks at the Shelburne Falls Trolley Museum, helped put up houses with Pioneer Valley Habitat for Humanity, and built pathways and bridges for the Amherst Conservation Department.

“As a freshman I was on this public outreach committee.  We use to go into local high schools and recruit engineering students.  I used to love that most kids (especially females) were so confused that a normal blonde girly-girl was in engineering.  We recruited a lot of females around that time.  It used to crack me up when people would say, ‘You’re like normal.’”  -Kate Biedron, '05
